Lets face it – energy bills are set to skyrocket this Winter. How can you implement some super easy energy saving tips in the home to try to off-set this cost? Plus you’ll be helping the environment at the same time!
Energy Saving Lightbulbs / LED’s
These are a must for a super easy switch! LED’s can replace halogen spotlights. If the average household replaced all of their bulbs with LEDs, it would save about £30 a year on bills.
Turn off Lights
Turn your lights off when you’re not using them. This will save you around £11 a year on your annual energy bills.
Switch off Standby
You can save around £35 a year just by remembering to turn your appliances off standby mode & turning them off at the plug. All do-able except my washing machine as the plug is not easy access.
Kettle Care
Only fill the kettle with the amount of water that you need and save around £6 a year.
Shower Quicker
Spending one minute less in the shower each day will save up to £4 a year off your energy bills, per person. With a water meter this could save a further £7 off annual water and sewerage bills.
Water Meter
Water bill savings are mostly due to a change in behaviour and higher consciousness of water efficiency after a meter is fitted, with an average reduction of water consumption between 9%-20%.
Turn Thermostat Down
Your room thermostat should be set to the lowest comfortable temperature, which for most is between 18°C and 21°C. If you only have a single room thermostat for the whole house, for every degree you increase the temperature, it will increase the heating bill by about 10%.
Cosy Up
How about leaving the heating off until you REALLY need it – layering up & cuddling your pets under a blanket!
